If you go down to the woods today,
You'll see an old abandoned ruin,
In run-down, tumbled, disarray,
A once loved home, no longer lived in

Search among the rotting timbers,
Signs are there, not deeply hidden:
A pot hung over long dead embers,
A table laid, the meal not eaten.

So suddenly did they depart,
Who knows by what calamity thrown,
Into the forest's very heart,
To roam by winding ways unknown.

Those trees are just beautiful. I want that house! ;P The woods look so intriguing, I just want to go through that gate and wander. :+fav:

Thats precisely how I feel! I suppose I'm lucky having some woods near my house, but there are no really big forests left in Britain. I'd LOVE to find a forest that you can wander through for days without reaching the edge.

A friend of mine has been to Tasmania - they have some great woodland there...

Omigod, that would be heaven. Must go to Tazzie one day.. I mean, its only a few hours away on a plane :) Just the money factor.

Never-ending forests are very in right now, it seems.

Wow what a great feeling of depth in that forest! I'd love for that to be my house! All nice and secluded... *le sigh* Anyway, love it! But I think that perhaps the lower half could use some more contrast. Right now my eye wants to stay right at the top portions of the trees because of all the light.

In the original sketch, the contrast between the sunny upper part and the gloomy lower part was the main feature of the image... I have messed about a lot with curves and levels on the different parts but haven't managed to retain that contrast AND have all parts really well exposed. The image as it stands is my preferred compromise, but I do tend to like things darker than most...

...oh and thankyou thankyou thankyou for making Nazgul Glomp - its absolute perfection! :worship:

Nah, I think that the light in the upper part is too much - the dark parts are the ones that make the forest look 'never-ending' and inviting. The light actually makes it look smaller and not that mysterious. At least to my eyes.
Who wrote the tiny poem, btw?

"I was like water, put into a bottle and left in a cellar; utterly motionless, never to be drunk, poured out, spilled or shaken."
:iconluthienshadows:
I love the trees too. The poem as well.
